THE MAN WHO WROTE THE PEACEFUL, EASY SONG EVERYONE REMEMBERS
"How many songs from the last 50 years are there that the general, baby boomer public can recognize just by name and even sing a bar or two with the words? Surprisingly, I've found, not many. Then, there's Peaceful, Easy Feeling. The mention of the title inevitably brings a look of pleasant recognition on the faces of many people. The song, like any great American pop song, crosses cultural, social, generational and even international boundaries..." (Thanks to Terry Roland for this excellent interview feature!)

Tonight's bill brings together Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, multi-instrumentalist David Lindley (a key member of Jackson Browne's musical circle when his career took off), songwriter Jack Tempchin (an early associate of the Eagles) and Honk, the Laguna Beach-based rock-folk-jazz-surf group that was a regular at the club.
Tempchin, the San Diego-based singer-songwriter who co-wrote the Eagles hit "Already Gone" and wrote "Peaceful Easy Feeling," said the Bear holds a special place for him. "I opened for Hoyt Axton, who was one of my heroes."
Proceeds from the four shows -- two each night -- benefit Sweet Relief, the Huntington Beach-based group that provides various forms of aid to musicians in need.
Jack Tempchin's BIG MONDAY lineup returns to Joe's Joint featuring Rick ‘The Bass Player’ Rosas (Neil Young) on bass, Phil Jones (Tom Petty, Roy Orbison) on drums, Berton Averre (The Knack) on guitar, and Rob Meurer (JD Souther) on keyboards/piano. Plus surprise special guests!
GOLDEN BEAR REUNION Feat. Jack, David Lindley & Ray Manzarek
As part of Huntington Beach’s 100th Anniversary, the Centennial Celebration Committee is proud to present the Golden Bear Reunion on September 25th & 26th, as a tribute to the importance The Golden Bear has had in the history and culture of Huntington Beach.
The ballroom at The Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort will be transformed into a replica of The Golden Bear to showcase talented artists who enjoyed many performances at the Bear and are returning to Huntington Beach for two unique nights.
This album is an engaging romp through many musical styles that are unified by a singular voice... He shifts between styles easily, giving his songs an identifiable sound and feel that is uniquely his.
'JACK IS ONE OF THE GREATS'
By George Varga
POP MUSIC CRITIC
Photos by Charlie Neuman for Union Tribune
Jack Tempchin, who performs Wednesday at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla with his band, should merit at least a few chapters when the definitive history of rock 'n' roll in San Diego is compiled. Fellow musicians recognize Tempchin's touch as one of pop's most gifted and prolific songwriters...
Acclaimed Southern California singer-songwriter Jack Tempchin's latest recording, "Songs," could have been called 'Little Movies.'
Tempchin, who wrote many hits made famous by The Eagles, presents a collection of scenarios and situations where the characters often seem to be on the outside looking in. His mix of genres, moods and sentiments is as alluring as it is mysterious.
"The guy may be a good musician, but he is a great songwriter. For that reason alone, you should check out Songs. It is impressive in its understatement, if nothing else."
Jack Tempchin added as panelist for NPMT! SUNDAY AUGUST 9th 2:30PM NPMT is happy to announce that Encinitas resident Jack Tempchin has been added to NPMT, to speak on the panel Songwriting Demystified: Where’s the Motivation? Mr. Tempchin has written many familiar songs, including "Slow Dancing" for Johnny Rivers, "Already Gone" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" for The Eagles. His music has been covered by countless others, including Richie Havens, Chris Hillman, Patty Loveless, Tom Waits, George Jones and more.
YOU PROBABLY THOUGHT THAT DON HENLEY, GLENN FREY AND OTHER MEMBERS OF The Eagles wrote all their big hits. Not so. Another hand, that of Jack Tempchin, was at work in the early days of the legendary band, and he’s performing Friday night at Coffee Gallery Backstage...

Pot, Politics, Music and Humor with Nicole Sandler :
Last night on Air America Radio, where I'm hanging out (at least this week and next), weeknights from 11pm-1am ET, I talked about all of those things with two wonderful guests.
In the first hour, musician and songwriter Jack Tempchin joined me. He is responsible for some of the Eagles biggest hits, and recently posted a new song to his MySpace page called Light a Joint. So I called him to talk about the marijuana laws in the US...
and we talked about music too.
SAN DIEGO TROUBADOUR Cover Story: "He's a storyteller."
JACK TEMPCHIN : OF DESERTS, OUTLAWS, AND AMERICA'S FIRST SHOPPING MALL
"After 40 years in the business, Tempchin is far more than a songwriter and performer. He's a storyteller. He's seen enough to write his own book several times over. He's felt enough to act as shaman for our own pop cultural emotions. He has the power to exorcise us of both our angst and demons, which go along with living in post-1960s America."
"Jay wanted to secure someone special, and in Tempchin, the greatest songwriter ever to call San Diego home, he’s done just that. San Diego has many great musicians and even a few other world-renowned tunesmiths as residents, but nobody can match Tempchin. The modest, unassuming North County resident has been a mainstay of the local music scene for more than 40 years, all while penning some of the biggest hit songs of all time..."
Jack will be on the 2009 ASCAP EXPO Songwriter Panel Titled: EVERY SONG TELLS A STORY. Memorable songs have resonance because they continue to hold meaning with each repeated listen. This panel of top songwriters have all written work that has become part of the "New American Songbook." Hear them perform their songs and tell the stories behind their creations. Learn what they believe makes a song endure year after year.
Jack's song "It Could Have Been You And Me" clocks in at number 9 on the MOJO UK Top 10! "Remember Tempchin from The Funky Kings? Tunemeister for the Eagles? Now he's doing easy-going jazz pop."
It's easy to see why Tempchin has songs featured on so many movie soundtracks; his songs really do feel like a nice warm day by the river somewhere in Alabama, watching the lazy water slowly drift by, a warm fuzzy kind of feeling... Tempchin likens it to more of a short story collection than a novel and this is true-so many differing styles can be heard on the album and Tempchin carries them all off, the sign of a good songwriter.
EAGLES SONGWRITER REEMERGES WITH NEW ALBUM by David Chiu for AOL Spinner.com
"Eagles songwriter Jack Tempchin may hold the rare distinction of being able to write a song over the telephone based on someone else's dream. That's what happened when he wrote the ballad 'Box of Memories,' with keyboardist Bobby Whitlock, about a girl and her possessions..."

SONGWRITING VETS TEMPCHIN AND SOUTHER CROSS PATHS ONCE AGAIN
Their paths first crossed at an open mic in San Diego 3 1/2 decades ago, and both found fleeting fame after separately penning hits for the Eagles.
Given that old pals J.D. Souther and Jack Tempchin record only sporadically, what are the odds that both men would issue new albums within a couple of weeks of each other?
Jack performs with amazing slide guitarist GREG LEISZ at The Rustic Theatre in Idyllwild, CA early show starts at 7pm! Tickets $20.00
For more info : (951)536.7071

J.D. Souther praises his good pal Jack Tempchin in the December issue of San Diego Magazine simply stating, “We used to crash at Jack’s place back in those days,” Souther remembers. “Jack is officially the nicest man in show business.” (Tempchin fans couldn't agree more... Thanks J.D.!)
"SONGS is an album of well crafted compositions presented by a talented songwriter who hopefully will receive some personal exposure as an artist. Tempchin has a unique lower register voice that serves him well. Here he brings it to a new series of catchy, well structured songs which are lyrically excellent."
Saturday August 9th. Jack plays solo and with Bass player/ producer Norman Sancho.

March 23rd at 9pm with a new band of great musicians that play at the Hotel Cafe, my favorite music club. This is to celebrate the release of my new album "Songs". A Tim Jones production.
Rocket Science, a band that Jack Tempchin is a member of, played the grand opening of the new Encinitas Library. We turned off the sound system so the audience had to read the songs...just kidding. It was a great gig. To hear Rocket Science look them up on CDbaby.com
A lot of fun was had at the David Lindley concert at the Belly Up. Jack and Dave are friends and share a common interest in guitar sounds and weird songs.
David is also interested in Polyester shirts and Compound bows for archery. Jack is only interested in watching old Westerns on TV.
Lindley did some unforgettable songs, such as "Grey Human Feet" and "A Man With Boobs" which are truly unforgettable, I know because I am still trying to forget them and have not been able too.
First they put two Tempchin songs on the biggest selling record of all time. Now they put two brand new Tempchin songs on their double album, LONG ROAD OUT OF EDEN. Jack's songs SOMEBODY (co-written with John Brannen) and IT'S YOUR WORLD NOW (co-written with Glenn Frey) are on the Eagles latest. Go to the link for info on the album and how to order it.
